Presentation

In 1210, the Montlaur family took over the seigneury. Along with Saint-Pierre church, the eponymous château formed the core of the first settlement and town walls. From there, the village grew and acquired its circular configuration, typical of Languedoc urban planning in that era. In the 19th century,

Thanks to the vineyards, a new phase of prosperity added to its architectural wealth. Today, you can see surprising buildings along its avenues that attest to this recent opulence, as well as some masterpieces of the past: the ramparts from the fourteenth century, the château of Montlaur, château of Malbois (14th and 17th centuries), and the former priory house, whose imposing façades are evidence of the town’s prestigious past. In addition, there is a protected natural environment, and a typical scrubland landscape, which you can discover by taking the “capitelles” marked footpaths.
