Presentation
While the first traces of occupation of the site date back to the Iron Age, the hill was occupied by an oppidum whose location,
in the crook of a natural harbour, suggests a commercial vocation.
Two streams, the Agau and the Vène, flow into this intimately charming cove, called Crique de l’Angle. This extremely rich environment is home to an abundant biodiversity.
A walk around the ramparts with its magnificent view over Thau lagoon and the Moure hills, followed by an exploration of the narrow and winding streets
of the village within the walls are worth the detour. You can also visit Saint-Maurice church (14th century), known in particular for its stained glass windows, and the remains of the medieval castle.
The medieval festivals of Balarucle-Vieux are the highlight of the summer season, and take place every year in July. They are an opportunity to revive the Middle Ages.
