Presentation

In the 12th century, the Porte de la Ville and the Porte de la Capelle marked the town’s first walls. Until the 18th century, Montbazin expanded by building three additional walls in succession.
The winegrowers’ houses, real private mansions, Saint-Pierre chapel built in the 11th and 12th centuries with its fresco of Italian-Byzantine influence, and the château, bear witness to this rich medieval past.

From the village, a marked hiking trail will take you into the Moure hills. On the way, you can admire the “capitelles”, which are huts made out of dry stone which were used by shepherds for shelter. If you’re brave enough to reach the highest point, you’ll be rewarded when you get there: a beautiful panoramic view from the Pic Saint-Loup to Sète. Today, this medieval village lives off its wine-growing heritage which extends across the base of the Moure hills.
