European Heritage Days - 2019

  • MIAM

Summer is an extended season in the destination Sète Archipel de Thau and invites us to discover all the riches of our territory, highlighted on the occasion of the European Heritage Days.

Discover an exceptional historical heritage

In the heart of our typically Languedoc towns and villages lies a remarkable historical heritage that will reveal the centuries-old history of our territory. Treat yourself to a journey back in time, and start by taking a trip back in time, to admire mosaics at the Gallo-Roman Museum in Loupian and enjoy the scents of Mediterranean essences at the Ancient Garden of Balaruc-les-Bains. Continue your visit a few steps and a few centuries later, and dive into the Middle Ages with the Abbey of Valmagne (Villeveyrac) and that of Saint Félix de Montceau, in Gigean. Finally, climb up to the bell tower of the church of Marseillan.

And if you feel like it, why not take a detour to Sète and visit the Molière Theatre? A temple of Sète culture, this century-old Italian-style theatre is listed as a historical monument and has regained its former glory thanks to a recent restoration.

Push the doors of our museums

Our destination is full of museums, and if you haven't visited all of them yet, now is the time to enjoy them! For history lovers, a stopover is required at the Gallo-Roman museum Villa-Loupian or the Sea Museum in Sète. If you are more into nature, head for the ethnographic museum of the Thau pond in Bouzigues, or the ancient Mediterranean garden of Balaruc-les-Bains. And for art lovers in all its forms, head for the singular island where you have a wide choice: Paul Valéry Museum, International Museum of Modest Arts (MIAM), Regional Centre for Contemporary Art (CRAC)...

Heritage... in all its forms!

There is no question of missing the natural heritage of our destination, without which these heritage days would seem incomplete! Three walks await you in Frontignan, during which you can learn everything about the saltworks in the pond ecosystem, the capitelles in the Gardiole and Muscat and its vineyards.
